The gala brought together more than 200 leaders from the Valencian energy sector, along with representatives from institutions, businesses, academia, and civil society.

Dr. Samira Khodayar Pardo, Head of the Meteorology and Climatology Area at CEAM, has been honoured with the AVAESEN Award during the association’s 20th anniversary celebration, in recognition of her professional career and her role as an inspiration for change.

The gala brought together more than 200 leaders from the Valencian energy sector, along with representatives from institutions, businesses, academia, and civil society, highlighting the strategic role of energy in economic development, innovation, and sustainability.

In her speech, Dr. Khodayar emphasised that over the past two decades the energy transition has evolved from a debate primarily focused on the cost of renewable energy to a broader understanding of the risks associated with climate inaction, as well as the structural role of energy in competitiveness, security, and societal well-being.

She also underlined the importance of scientific evidence as the foundation for informed decision-making, noting that “science does not replace politics, but it does illuminate the path forward,” and that today’s major challenges require close collaboration between science, society, the private sector, and public administrations.

In her address, she highlighted the Valencian Community’s position as a territory with competitive advantages to lead solutions in the energy transition, thanks to its renewable resources, strong business fabric, talent, and innovation ecosystem.

Dr. Khodayar stressed that the energy transition must be fair, inclusive, and opportunity-generating, fostering skilled employment, new industrial models, territorial cohesion, and resilience to climate change.

This recognition reinforces CEAM’s commitment to scientific excellence, knowledge transfer, and support for public policies and business strategies aimed at climate adaptation, sustainability, and the energy transition.
