Presentation of the CEAMMEV platform, developed by the Meteorology and Climatology area of CEAM with the support of the Valencian Regional Ministry of Environment, Infrastructures and Territory.

On Friday 13th June, the innovative CEAMMEV climate data platform was presented in the Valencian Community, designed by the CEAM Meteorology and Climatology area with the support of the Regional Ministry of the Environment, Infrastructures and Territory. The presentation took place in the auditorium of the Ciutat Administrativa 9 d’Octubre, and was attended by the Regional Minister for the Environment, Infrastructures and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, the Regional Secretary for the Environment and Territory, Raúl Mérida Gordillo, the Director General for Environmental Quality and Education, Jorge Blanco Coll, the Director General for Forest Fire Prevention, Rosa María Touris López, and the Deputy Director General for Climate Change and Environmental Education, Cristina Vicent López.

CEAMMEV is an advanced tool that will enable the Valencian Region to address today’s environmental challenges more effectively. This platform integrates high-resolution climate data within a Spatial Data Infrastructure, designed to support informed decision making by policy makers, local administrations and key sectors such as agriculture, water resource management, civil protection and tourism. In addition, the platform is open to the scientific community, productive and social sectors, and the general public, promoting public and transversal access to relevant weather and climate information.

Throughout the day, the main characteristics of the meteorology and climatology of the Valencian Community and the Mediterranean region were addressed, with special emphasis on the most relevant extreme weather phenomena and their evolution in recent decades. In addition, the main functionalities of the CEAMMEV platform were shown, highlighting its capacity to visualise historical data and future climate scenarios at regional level. These scenarios, developed by the Meteorology and Climatology area of CEAM, are unprecedented for our region and, for the first time, are available for consultation, marking an unprecedented advance in the environmental knowledge of the Valencian Community. In addition, didactic materials developed by the CEAM were presented, accessible through the platform, with the aim of disseminating the scientific knowledge generated in recent years on climate and extreme phenomena. These resources are designed for use in environmental education, scientific dissemination and raising awareness in society.

The day culminated with a round table with the participation of experts from various socio-economic sectors, such as science, public administration, non-governmental organisations and the field of environmental education. In this debate, the resilience of the territory of the Valencian Community was discussed, addressing the role that a tool such as CEAMMEV can play in the adaptation and resilience of our territory.
