CEAM’s Meteorology and Climatology Area participates alongside the Generalitat Valenciana in the European Union programme International Urban and Regional Cooperation (IURC).
Translating scientific knowledge into practical tools for decision-making is essential to strengthening cities’ resilience to climate change. In this context, CEAM’s Meteorology and Climatology Area is participating, together with the Generalitat Valenciana and the Directorate-General for Environmental Quality and Environmental Education, in the European Union programme International Urban and Regional Cooperation (IURC). This initiative fosters collaboration between cities and regions worldwide to accelerate sustainable urban development and climate action.
As part of this initiative, CEAMMeteo recently participated in the webinar “Cities Showcase: Digital Innovation & Climate Governance Solutions”, the first webinar organized within this international cooperation community. During the session, Samira Khodayar presented CEAMMeteo’s work on digital environmental data platforms and urban sensor networks, highlighting their role as strategic tools for climate governance, urban resilience, and evidence-based decision-making.
The presentation focused on the importance of integrated digital infrastructures capable of combining real-time environmental monitoring with advanced data management and climate services. These systems support public administrations in responding more effectively to climate-related risks, while also improving access to high-quality environmental information for researchers, productive sectors, and society as a whole.
The initiative further highlights the importance of open, interoperable, and cross-cutting approaches that connect science, policy, technology, and society to strengthen collective adaptive capacity and foster more resilient urban environments.
Within the IURC network, CEAM collaborates closely with international partners from Bologna (Italy), Sofia (Bulgaria), Hamburg (Germany), Suzhou and Beijing (China), Kyoto City and Kawasaki City (Japan), PCMC – Pimpri Chinchwad (India), and Christchurch (New Zealand), promoting the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices in climate adaptation, digital innovation, and sustainable urban governance.
