    FOREST RESEARCH

The Forest Research Programme analyses the causes of desertification and the impact of forest fires in the Mediterranean area. Based on the results obtained, strategies and technologies for forest restoration are developed. The specific aims raised in the programme are:

To develop technologies to prevent forest fires in highly combustible formations
To minimize the negative effects of fires by protecting the ecosystems in the short and medium term
To restore burned and degraded lands through the establishment of plant communities with both a high fire response capacity and drought resistance
To preserve, to improve and to revalue Valencian wildlands and, in extension, all Mediterranean wildlands.

This programme is constructed in five thematic areas: preventive selviculture, forest fire  impact, management of burnt land, forest restoration and management of woodlands
