The aim of this Programme is to study the
effects of the most important air pollutants in the
Mediterranean Basin (or the changes produced by them, e.g.,
Climate Change). Thus, either the various ecosystems are studied
in situ, or plant bioindicators are used to determine the
presence and evaluate the potential impact of a certain
pollutant.
This area is articulated into five research
lines:
•
Direct and indirect effects of air pollutants in natural
ecosystems
•
Air pollution effects in agricultural ecosystems
•
The ecosystem as a carbon sink. CO2 flows in forest
ecosystems
•
Atmospheric deposition of nitrogenous compounds
•
Use of plant bioindicators to measure air pollution.
